Hokkaido Shrine is located in Sapporo. It is one of the older Shinto shrines in Hokkaido. The shrine was built in the early days of the island's development, around the year 1871. Besides praying to the four deities enshrined here, visitors enjoy the shrine's connection to Maruyama Park, making it another great spot in the city. The best time to visit is spring, ideal for viewing cherry blossoms in bloom. In summer, on June 14-16 every year, the Sapporo Festival (Sapporo Matsuri) is held, with a parade through the streets. The atmosphere here in summer is lively and well worth a visit.
