JR Sanyo Sanin Area Pass is a flat-rate travel pass that covers the second-largest service area offered by JR WEST. It is sold to foreign tourists only, and allows unlimited rides on shinkansen and limited express trains in the Chugoku region and part of the Kansai region, extending as far as Fukuoka on Kyushu island.

Where to buy:

You can purchase it outside Japan through a travel agency or online, then exchange the order for a physical ticket when you enter Japan. If you buy it inside Japan, you can purchase it at stations covered by this pass, though it will cost ¥1,000 more. Limited to 1 ticket per person.

How to Use:

  1. Unlimited rides on local, rapid, and limited express JR trains along the routes shown on the map above, including the entire Chizu Express Line between Kamigori and Chizu, a non-JR line used to reach Tottori
  2. Unlimited rides on the Sanyo Shinkansen (including Nozomi and Mizuho) between Shin-Osaka and Hakata Station in Fukuoka, but not the Tokaido Shinkansen between Kyoto and Osaka
  3. Unlimited rides on the JR ferry to Miyajima
  4. Free seat reservations
  5. Valid for 7 consecutive days, counted from midnight to midnight
  6. Available to foreign tourists only
  7. This ticket is personal and cannot be transferred to another person. You must show your passport every time you travel

The JR Sanyo Sanin Area Pass is a great option for traveling around the Chugoku Region (the Sanyo and Sanin areas). For example, the pass offers great value on a long trip between Osaka and Fukuoka in either direction, with stops at cities such as Hiroshima, Himeji, Miyajima, Kyoto, Wakayama, or Kobe.
