Kawagoe's Warehouse District: A Walk Through Little Edo is a charming and distinctive district located about 2 kilometers north of Kawagoe Station. The main street is about 700 meters long, and side alleys branch off it that are worth wandering down. What makes this old district so popular with tourists is that it is lined on both sides with Edo-period style houses, and they are so well preserved that it feels as if you have stepped back into that era. In the past, Kawagoe flourished as a trading town, and the area once had many warehouses. As merchants grew wealthy, they kept putting up new buildings, and some of them still stand in their original form today. This has earned the district the nickname Koedo Kawagoe, meaning Little Edo. The word "kura" means warehouse, which is where the name of Kurazukuri Street comes from — the street where visitors love to stroll and admire the town's old architecture. If you visit Kawagoe, this district is the one place you shouldn't miss.
