Kumamoto City Tram is a convenient way to get around Kumamoto city, passing by several major attractions such as Kumamoto Castle and Suizenji Garden. Board through the middle or rear door, and pay when you get off.

Fares & How to Board/Alight
The Kumamoto tram charges a flat fare for the entire line: Adult ¥180 / Child ¥90. Board through the middle/rear door, and pay when you get off through the front door (some low-floor trams allow exiting through either door). You can pay with cash, contactless cards or smartphones (Touch), IC cards, or QR codes.
Unlimited-Ride Passes
- 1-Day Pass: Adult ¥500 / Child ¥250 (paper version available at tourist information centers; a digital version is also available in the app)
- 24-Hour Pass (digital): Adult ¥600 / Child ¥300 (purchase and use through the Japan Transit Planner (Jorudan) / my route app)
Age definitions: Adults are junior high school age and up (12+), and children are elementary school age. Infants under 1 ride free, and each paying passenger can bring one young child for free.
Routes & Transfers
The tram has 2 main routes: A Route (Tasakibashi-Kengunmachi, via JR Kumamoto) and B Route (Kami-Kumamoto-Kengunmachi, via JR Kami-Kumamoto). To transfer between A and B, get a "transfer ticket" at Karashimacho and transfer within 20 minutes

Tram times and the last departure vary by day and stop. Please check the official Time Table. The schedule was revised in April 2025 to extend the last departure time on some routes
