Nara Transportation

Nara was the old capital of Japan about 1,300 years ago (710-784 CE), located in the Kansai region. It is just 30 kilometers east of Osaka and about 40 kilometers south of Kyoto.

Nara is served by two main railway operators: Japan Rail (JR) and Kintetsu Railways. Kintetsu Nara Station is closer to the main sightseeing spots. JR Nara Station is about 1 kilometer away. A local bus network also connects key points around the city, including a route between Kintetsu Nara and JR Nara. Most IC cards are accepted, such as ICOCA, PiTaPa, and CICA.
